Suspenders and garters both are the same. In Britain it is known as “Suspenders” and in North America as “Garters”. Stockings supported by suspenders or garters look sleek and stylish.
Garters, which hold stockings up to the legs, are usually made of leather and are few inches in width. To make it appear more appealing, the garters are embellished with bells and ribbons. During the 18th and the 20th centuries, the garters were tied below the knee so as to prevent the stockings from slipping. But with the advent of elastics in the recent years, stockings have become more demanding and comfortable to wear.
However, there is a particular way of wearing stockings. The three different ways to wear it are:
[1] You can wear a garter belt or suspender belt around the waist and loose extensions, which are known as suspenders, and sussies are clipped to the tops of the stockings. This process is considered as the easiest and hassle-free.
[2] You can also use “stay ups” to support your stockings. There is a band of elastic in the inside part of the stockings that resists the stockings from slipping down from the thigh. The firm elastics are unreliable and can make you feel uneasy.
[3] In the third process you can use elastic garters to hold the stockings by clamping it to your legs.
Of the above three ways of wearing stockings, the first one is comfortable and is very much common among women.
The nylon stockings are chic, sexy and quite in vogue today. The material, color and the appealing look actually steals the attention. You can make your pick from the array of colors like off white, beige, light brown and light beige. You can blend and match the color of the stockings with your skin color or the dress you are wearing. The shimmering and trendy designs are mostly welcomed. There are pantyhose styles, above the knee style and short knee type, which are all very beautiful and durable.
Nylon Stocking Garter Vs Traditional Knit Separate Garter
The nylon Stocking garters render various advantages, which are as follows:
- The stockings have anti cellulite effect, which enable the thighs to look firm and toned. It pampers the legs and exudes a sleeker look.
- The nylons are soft and hug your legs gently. This invigorates your blood circulation and makes you feel active throughout the day.
- The nylons encourage softening your leg and as a result rendering comfort for the whole day.
But in case of traditional knit separate garter, these suitable factors are eliminated and therefore make you feel uneasy and uncomfortable at the same time.
Garter Belts
Garter belts are inevitable as it hugs enables the stockings to hold on to your legs. The three garters are mostly preferred to the two-garter belt. This is because the three garters of the garter belt are attached to a stiff, reinforced strip of material and hold the stocking very firmly.
Garter belts are much more preferred to girdles and pantyhose. The garter belts come in different hues like red or black. The satin garter belts look more sexy and sleek.

You can wear stockings with belts that can hold up the stockings firmly up to the thighs. The metal clasps grip the stocking firmly to your legs. Select the number of straps you want. Belts with six strappers are more advisable as they render staunch support. For extra support you can use girdle.
The sequins or seams of the stockings come out easily. Hence, proper care should be taken to hold them firmly against the stockings. Always prefer to wear those stockings, which have Lycra. Lycra has its own unique attribute and helps the fabric to stretch much farther than the nylons.
